Las Vegas Adventures – Which Trails Are Great for a Truck?
Las Vegas is a city of adventure, although the outdoors type of adventure may not be the first thing that comes to mind. If you love to off-road in your truck, though, the Las Vegas area has a lot to offer when you get away from all of the neon lights.
Whether you’ve got a monster 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor or something a little smaller, the Las Vegas area has some amazing off-road trails if you know where to look. Keep reading to learn more about the places that should be on your must-visit list.
Elko, Nevada
Elko isn’t exactly on the map they hand out in the casinos in Las Vegas, but for people who want to get off the beaten path in their truck, you can’t beat this unique spot. It’s got a variety of interesting terrain that will appeal to first-time off-roaders and those who are a little bit more experienced.
When you visit Elko, you’ll wind around roads and trails that take you past old mining towns and a host of scenic vistas. You can go on a guided tour, but if you choose relatively easy paths, almost anybody can do this trip on their own.
The kids will love Elko. After all, what kid wouldn’t love an old abandoned mining town?
Lunar Crater
Lunar Crater is loaded with unique topography, from cinder cones to maars and basalt flows. Even if you don’t love off-roading in your truck, this scenic place is a must-see for anybody who just enjoys the great outdoors.
High-clearance vehicles are recommended for exploring this National Natural Landmark. While you can’t drive up the crater itself, there are numerous roads off the main path to check out in an off-road vehicle.
Winnemucca Sand Dunes
Not all trucks are ideal for sand dunes, but if you’ve got a vehicle that can handle some serious terrain, the Winnemucca sand dunes offer 40 miles of trails in the largest dune field in Nevada.
