How to Prep for Your Roadtrip

The getaway has been planned for months. Rather than dealing with the hassles at the airport, this adventure is going on the road.  The car trip has been one of the quintessential American adventures for decades, and we at Reliable Auto Sales love to be part of that tradition. But before throwing the luggage in the back and hitting the road, we’d like to offer a few tips to make sure that you spend more time enjoying the drive.

The Map

While cell phones and related apps are certainly handy, it never hurts to have a paper map with you, tucked away somewhere close by so it can be consulted.  Remember, your cell phone and GPS are not perfect, and even the best technology occasionally fails. A good paper map can’t short out or run out of battery life.

The When and Where

Part of good road trip prep is taking into consideration where you’re going and the conditions along the way.  It takes only a few minutes to check the weather for your destination, and listening to the news station can give you updates while you’re driving. Don’t assume that the weather will be perfect the whole way.

Also, make sure that you’re prepared for adverse weather in the event of a breakdown.  A couple of thick blankets may take up a little room, but they’re a life saver if you happen to conk out on a lonely highway.

The Once Over

Whether it’s a trip to the other side of the Nevada state or the other side of the country, running through your car maintenance checklist before taking your car trip is a good thing to do. Make sure your fluids are topped off, your tires are still in good shape, and you’re not hearing weird sounds when you brake or accelerate.

Be smart about it. Whatever routine maintenance you can do beforehand, do it. You don’t have to do absolutely everything, but give the car a once-over before you hit the road. And remember, Reliable Auto Sales can handle whatever car service you may need in Las Vegas.

All the Little Things

Finally, keep in mind that you (and probably at least one other person) are going to be on the road for a while. If this is the first car trip you’ve taken with somebody, find a scenic route. If you’re taking the family, make sure there’s snacks and entertainment that everybody can agree on.

And if the worst happens, make sure you’ve got a good set of tools and a first-aid kit with you. Enjoy the road, and come back safe.
